Auditing programs are available at some of the nation's highest ranked schools. These programs are available at the undergraduate and graduate degree levels.

Students who are interested in becoming professional auditors can find relevant programs at several institutions, including Bradley University, Eastern Michigan University, DePaul University, and CUNY Bernard M. Baruch College.

Three of these schools were ranked highly by U.S. News and World Report, and Eastern Michigan University was ranked by Forbes.

1. Bradley University in Peoria, IL

U.S. News and World Report ranked Bradley University as the 6th top regional school in the Midwest, as of 2017. The Department of Accounting houses 200 students who are taught by professionals in the field, including seven faculty members who hold PhDs.

At the university, undergraduates can pursue an accounting bachelor's degree program with a major or minor in internal auditing. Once enrolled, students learn how to help businesses and companies find and solve financial problems. They also develop their knowledge of sales, risk management, fraud investigation and accounting. Courses within this program include topics in internal auditing, professional interviewing and computer-assisted auditing techniques. An M.S. in Accounting is also available, in addition to an integrated M.S. in Accounting program.

2. Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI

Forbes ranked Eastern Michigan University as the #164 regional school in the Midwest in 2016. The university, located in Ypsilanti, Michigan, offers accounting degrees at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Graduate coursework includes training in information systems and audit control, professional internal auditing and fraud examination. Graduate certificates are also available in various areas of study, such as business administration, finance, management and supply chain management.

The College of Business supports the economic development of a particular region in Michigan by preparing students to apply themselves within the business community.

3. DePaul University in Chicago, IL

Depaul University has a business program among the top 100 in the country, according to 2017 U.S. News and World Report rankings. At the Chicago-based university's College of Business, students can earn a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy while receiving instruction in internal auditing.

Along with developing auditing skills, students learn about basic accounting techniques and business management principles. DePaul University also offers bachelor's degrees in management information systems, finance and economics. These aforementioned areas of study are also available as minors. MBA concentrations in accountancy, applied economics, finance, management information systems and operations management.

The university's College of Business offers an abundance of post-graduation business opportunities for its students as well.

4. CUNY Bernard M. Baruch College in New York, NY

U.S. News and World Report ranked CUNY Bernard M. Baruch College in New York, NY, 20th among regional schools in the Midwest as of 2017.

The institution's College of Professional and Continuing Studies offers a forensic accounting certificate. The program is four months long and consists of five courses. Students can also complete an accountancy master's degree that includes the option to complete advanced electives in auditing and forensic accounting.
